Curiosities

Originally only monkeys were used, nevertheless nowadays different animals in the same position and with the same meaning have been used such as frogs, turtles, owls, elephants, etc.

Sculptures are made not only of wood but also in different materials: bronze, crystal, ceramics, plaster, wax, paintings in cloth, etc. The position of the ´´ three monkeys ´´ has no specific order.

We can find these creations in ash-trays, glasses, necklaces, T-shirts, etc. We can see the three monkeys grouped in different ways: the three separate, one next to the other, one on top of the other, back to back, etc.
You can find them in all sizes and positions: sitting, standing, kneeling, lying, etc. Different artists created statues where the three monkeys do just the opposite: ´´ I listen ´´ , ´´ I see ´´ , ´´ I speak ´´; these are more difficult to find.

THE FOUR MONKEYS
The fourth monkey leans the palm of its hand on the genital area. The origin of the fourth monkey isn’t clear either, some people think that it is used to explain the danger of uncontrolled birth rate in the world, others believe that it appeared with AIDS and others think it’s just a commercial idea.
